No truer words were ever spoken by even the most articulate of world philosophers! However, it comes with little surprise that the immortal Roberto Clemente would utter such words for he truly represented the embodiment of human valor. In fact, it would be his courageous actions that would tragically claim his life when on New Year's Eve 1972, his plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean as he was on his way to assist earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He was so loved by so many, even one of his closest friends, Pirates catcher Manny Sanguillen, missed Clemente's memorial service, choosing instead to dive into the frigid waters of the Atlantic in an effort to find his beloved teammate.

It is actions such as this that serve as a fitting testament to Clemente's iconic stature, substantiated by a myriad of avid collectors seeking his valued keepsakes. One of those cherished mementos just happens to be presented here; a splendid 7" x 9-1/8" original Type 1 photo of the Pirates star right fielder. Issued in 1968 by Wide World Photos, it portrays Clemente in a classic batting practice swinging pose, donning his Pirates period style home uniform. You can feel Clemente's intensity as he has just connected with the horsehide sphere that is clearly visible jumping off the barrel of his mighty lumber.
