(LOT 57)
1937 Lou Gehrig Original Type I International News Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" - PSA Type I LOA

This sensational 1937 Lou Gehrig International News Original Type I image portrays the Iron Horse holding five bats directly in front of him. One of the more eclectic Gehrig poses you will ever come across, it conjures up vivid memories of Gehrig's immense power, and the mighty lumber he chose to unleash his mammoth blasts. A unique-like pose to say the least, it literally transcends times back to an era when the Yankee's captain
Led the Yankees to three consecutive championships from 1936 – 1938. While the Yankees would ultimately win a fourth consecutive championship in 1939, it would not be Gehrig leading the way, with his tragic ALS disease forcing him out of the lineup in May 1939.

The photo itself reveals a spectacular central image, well centered between four relatively clean white borders. The upper right quadrant does exhibit a moderate "vertical streak" extending from the upper edge to the top of the right end bat barrel. Most important, this negligible blemish does not impede on the stellar central image aesthetics, with the verso depicting the critical International news credit stamp. An extremely scare illustration of the Iron Horse to say the least, it merits serious attention from any advanced photo and/or Lou Gehrig collector! - LOA – PSA/DNA Type I
