(LOT 445)
1909 T206 Red Hindu John McGraw "Glove at Hip" (PSA 1)

One of the scarcest cigarette brands to find is the "Red Hindu" back, with hobby experts placing it in the top 10 scarcest tobacco ads extant. Presented here is the New York Giants fiery Hall of Fame manager John McGraw's PSA 1 Red Hindu card that resides as one of only ten copies on the illustrious PSA "pop" chart, representing a fractional 1.5% of the total 675 listed examples! Any card of John McGraw merits significant hobby accolades, let alone one that carries the super scarce Red Hindu advertisement. While McGraw was a standout 19th century 3rd baseman, his iconic stature is linked to an incredible 29-year stint as the New York Giants manager, arguably considered by many experts as the finest field general in baseball history.

His renowned "glove at hip" image reflects a light vertical crease extending from the lower border up through an area near his chin, the only glaring flaw on this timeless pose. Otherwise, the obverse side portrays aesthetics consistent with a "VG" examples. Accounting for the assigned grade are some scattered surface abrasions on the verso including a small area that has compromised the "ETT" in "CIGARETTE". Fortunately, the critical bold red "HINDU" advertisement is completely intact, with this unquestionable rarity seldom surfacing for the taking!
