(LOT 97)
1965 Sandy Koufax Photo – "Koufax Shuts Out Minnesota in Game 7 of 1965 World Series" - PSA Type 1 Original United Press International Photo & Voted 1965 Sport Magazine Picture of the Year! – Measures 8" x 10" – Full PSA Type 1 LOA

The legendary Hall of Fame southpaw Sandy Koufax has graced the sport world with several renowned photos including classics such as his perfect game illustration and four no-hitter baseballs image, just to mention a few. Yet, for all of the prestigious pictures taken of this fire-balling left-handed marvel, NONE could possibly match he iconic status of this breathtaking 8" x 10" original photo taken from "game 7" of the 1965 World Series against the Minnesota Twins. This original/Type I image of the unparalleled hurler captures Koufax in his immortal pitching pose directly after he has unleashed one of his virtually unhittable pitches with the baseball in mid-flight towards home plate, and you can actually see the "game face" intensity on the ace-lefthander's stoic face!

Originally struck by the United International News Service at Minnesota's Metropolitan Stadium on October 14, 1965, Koufax would go on to toss a sensational 3-hit 2-0 shutout versus the Twins to clinch the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Instantly, this prestigious photo became a monumental classic, and was eventually voted 1965 Sport magazine picture of the year! Even more noteworthy is the fact that this actual photo originated from the archive of the publisher with the original press stamp and caption still affixed on the flip side of this world-class marvel. We cannot over emphasize the significance of what many enthusiasts believe to be the most significant Sandy Koufax image in existence, especially considering that for a five-year period, Koufax was arguably the greatest pitcher in baseball history.

From 1962 through 1966, he dominated major league hitters as no other pitcher ever has, to the tune of 3 Cy Young awards, 4 no-hitters (including one perfect game!), 3 seasons with 25 or more wins, microscopic E.R.A.'s less than 2.00, and a southpaw record of 382 strikeouts in a single season. His immortal stature is forever portrayed on this captivating image that has managed to retain virtually all of its original pristine attributes including sparkling photo quality, crystal clear focus, impeccable contrast, and fine centering. Needless to say, if you are assembling some of our National Pastime's most memorable moments via original photos, this museum worthy Type I masterpiece of the majestic Sandy Koufax suffices as one of those mementos for your esteemed gathering! - Full PSA Type I LOA
