Amazing c.1910's Ty Cobb PSA Type 1 Charles Conlon Batting Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10-1/8" – PSA Type 1 LOA
Presented here is one of the most incredible Ty Cobb photos we have ever come across. This absolutely breathtaking 8" x 10-1/8" marvel depicts the Georgia Peach in his classic batting pose, and most significantly, was struck during the 1910 era by none other than the legendary photographer Charles M. Conlan. Any illustration taken by Conlon demands immediate hobby interest, let alone one portraying one of baseball's greatest players to ever step foot in a batter's box. Simply stated, many of Cobb's diamond exploits are second to none, and you can literally feel his unparalleled intensity as he is about to smack another line drive with the stadium backdrop adding to its awe-inspiring character. Cobb's majestic career commenced in 1905 when he broke into the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers, playing in a mere 41 games while hitting a paltry .240.

Quickly, Cobb bounced back in 1906 to bat an impressive .316, the first of an unfathomable 23 consecutive years of exceeding the exalted .300 benchmark. Throughout his incomparable 24 seasons, he led the American League in batting average an unprecedented 12-years including a miraculous 9 consecutive years from 1907 thru 1915! He also happened to exceed the exalted .400 mark three times, with all of the above totaling to an all-time .366 mark via 4,189 safeties. It is therefore no coincidence that enthusiasts seek his most treasured artifacts with only a handful of them possibly boasting the prestigious of this timeless classic. Considered "oversized" for the era (most c.1910 images did not exceed 7" x 9"), its Charles M. Conlon heritage immediately places it as one of the most significant Cobb photos extant, especially considering its breathtaking Georgia Peach batting pose that encompasses nearly the entire photo.

Arguably speaking, Conlon images reside as the most valuable and desirable of all the legendary photographers (w/all due respect to Bain, Thompson, Burke, Van Oyen, etc.), with his stellar Ruth, Gehrig, and Cobb photos realizing five figures+ price tags. Furthermore, rarely does an imposing Cobb original Type 1 batting photo surface for the taking for any photographer and/or news service, let alone one originating from the immortal Conlon's camera! Condition wise and most significant, the brilliant Cobb central batting image reflects a majority of its original qualities, emanating exceptional contrast and eluding any obtrusive surface flaws. For purposes of full disclosure, a small area of prior surface loss near the upper right corner appears to have been filled in with possibly pencil, and the two upper corners and lower left corner all reflect diminutive chips.

The verso reveals the critical "COBB (Detroit)" pencil notations scripted in Conlon's hand, and the original Conlon credit stamp has unfortunately been primarily covered via scribbled notations. Simply stated, aside from the iconic Charles Conlon "Cobb Sliding Into 3rd Base" image, we cannot recall any finer photo of the fiery Tigers superstar. It truly stands as a breathtaking illustration of one of Americas Pastime's greatest players, with this museum worthy Ty Cobb masterpiece meriting the utmost attention from any world-class hobbyist! - Full PSA Type I LOA
