(LOT 1239)
1911 "America's National Game" First Edition Book by Albert Spalding – One of the Finest Copies Known!

One of the most significant books ever published with regard to our National Pastime's glorious history is the renowned 1911 "America's National Game" by Albert G. Spalding. This "mass-distributed" historical volume provides a definitive account of the game itself, with arguably the finest "First Edition" copies presented here in virtually pristine condition. Written by baseball pioneer and 1939 Hall of Fame inductee Albert Spalding, his portrait image is included in a classic oval shaped portrait pose on the right inside page.

The book provides a thorough account of our National game's chronological history including its earliest pre-Civil war origins, the birth of its first professional teams and its path of success right through the first decade of the 20th century. Incredibly, the bold Gold Leaf printing on the blue/violet hued cover is completely intact including the imposing baseball player w/bat image and large "AMERICA'S NATIONAL GAME" and "A.G. SPALDING" text.

Even more impressive is the virtually flawless spine that has miraculously retained nearly all of its original issued attributes. All of the foldouts are likewise completely unaffected by their 106 years of age, and no obtrusive discoloration or fading is apparent on the spine or either cover. A solid "NM/MT" first edition offering, it truly resides as the most impressive surviving copy extant and worthy of an esteemed place in any world-class publishing collection!
