(LOT 118)
1914 Cracker Jack #66 Nap Lajoie SGC 50 VG/EX 4

Along with the exalted T206 "Monster Issue", 1914 Cracker Jack baseball cards are arguably considered the most esteemed of all pre-WWI issues and the most celebrated "Candy/E" card set. Distributed in both 1914 and 1915, the 1914 issues are more difficult to find in strong mid-grade or higher due to the unavailability of the 1914 set via mail order (the entire 1915 set could be obtained through the mail). The 1914 Nap Lajoie Cracker Jack presented here in a solid mid-grade SGC 50/4holder has only been joined by 6 other specimens at this plateau with a mere 11 examples graded higher. Napoleon Lajoie is one of baseball's greatest 2nd baseman of all-time. Undoubtedly, one of the most beloved players in baseball history, Napoleon Lajoie was the one of the early 20th century's true embodiments of a National hero. If this wasn't enough, add 3 batting titles (including amodern-day record of .426 in 1901 when he captured the Triple Crown), 3000+ hits and a .338 lifetime average; it is no surprise that Lajoie was a second ballot Hall of Famer.

His picturesque throwing image on this Cracker Jack is crystal clear, set against a vibrant red background and soft green grass. The illustration atypically reveals virtually "dead-on" centering between four somewhat toned borders, with the four corners exhibiting eye pleasing even corner wear consistent with the grade. No glaring creases are evident, and primarily accounting for the assessment is some staining along the upper border. The verso portrays vivid text and the aforementioned upper edge staining, otherwise revealing a relatively clean surface. No doubt, the stellar aesthetics place this card at an esteemed level, and considering it represents one of baseball's greatest Hall of Famer's ever, we highly recommend that you be overly assertive in your pursuit of this timeless Lajoie marvel!
