(LOT 117)
1914 Cracker Jack #65 Tris Speaker PSA 4 VG-EX

One of the "Gray Eagle's" most desirable vintage cards is his magnificent 1914 Cracker Jack subject, presented here is an outstanding PSA 4 holder. Clearly exhibiting solid mid-grade aesthetics, one could certainly deem this cardboard treasure presents itself beyond its rather harsh technical assessment. Along with Mays and DiMaggio, experts consider Tris Speaker to be one of the top three centerfielders to ever play the game. Author of a .344 lifetime batting average via 3,500+ hits, Speaker revolutionized the centerfield position by playing almost behind 2nd base, enabling him to gather the most outfield assists in baseball history including an incredible 35 in his 1909 rookie season! Speaker's classic image portraying his "glove in pocket" suffices as one of the hobby's most widely recognized and coveted poses, and this example certainly doesn't disappoint.

Set against a seemingly flawless bright red background, the details of Speaker's striped uniform and cap are extremely vivid, and you can virtually feel the depth perception of his period style glove sitting in his back right pocket. The illustration exhibits a favoritism towards the upper right edges, with the subtle and even corner wear preventing the card from achieving "EX" status. Atypically, no obtrusive staining and creases are evident, with a super clean flipside its final exclamation point! A stellar mid-grade example, its outstanding central image aesthetics coupled with the fact it represents one of baseball's greatest centerfielder's stand as two solidified reasons to place the final bid on this esteemed Speaker keepsake!
