After re-capturing the World Championship in 1941, the New York Yankees would once again seize the American league pennant in 1942 via their impressive 103 victories that bested the second place Red Sox by nine games. Led by their incomparable hero Joe DiMaggio, they played the St. Louis Cardinals in the Fall Classic, unfortunately falling short to the "Redbirds" in five games. This would mark the Yankee's Clipper final appearance in a Major League uniform until 1946, with DiMaggio enlisting in the United States Army Air Forces on February 17, 1943. "Joltin Joe" would not return to the Yankees until the 1946 season, joining forces with other baseball stars including Bob Feller and Hank Greenberg to assist America in winning World War II.

This superb 8" x 10" Underwood-Stratton issued photo portrays the 1942 A.L. Champion New York Yankees with DiMaggio standing 3rd form the left in the top row. Other notable Cooperstown inductees include Phil Rizzuto, Lefty Gomez, Red Ruffing, Bill Dickey, coach Earle Combs and manager Joe McCarthy. The photo itself is in remarkable condition, exhibiting near-perfect centering, contrast, clarity, clean white borders, fine edging and the critical Underwood-Stratton credit stamp on its verso.
