Babe Ruth & Artist Viewing Wooden Ruth Statue - PSA Type I Original Underwood & Underwood Photo/Bettman Archive – Measures 8" x 10" – Full PSA Type 1 LOA
Here is one you don't see very often! Pictured here is the immortal Babe Ruth with talented artist Carl Hallsthammar, viewing the sculptor's recent wooden statue of the "Bambino" himself. Measuring some 8' x 10", the black & white image was taken at Chicago's Comiskey Park by the prestigious Underwood & Underwood news service (credit stampings on verso), and exhibits extraordinary resolution and contrast. The central image has eluded any serious surface flaws, with only a small upper right corner chip and negligible notations on the lower border worthy of mention.
The reverse side reflects the aforementioned Underwood news service stamp, an affixed Bettman Archive label and the critical caption that reads as follows: "BABE RUTH SEES HIMSELF IN WOOD – Chicago, Ill., PHOTO SHOWS: – Carl Hallsthammar, famous wood-carver, is shown putting finishing touches on the statue he has carved of Babe Ruth. Ruth gladly poses before the game while he was here for the White Sox games." An extremely eclectic "Sultan of Swat" image, you can literally feel Ruth's curiosity as he gazes at his wooden likeness portraying the mighty slugger in a classic batting stance. Ironically, it was this iconic stance that eventually led to Ruth's 714 round trippers and pinnacle standing as our National Pastime's irrefutable foremost player! – Full PSA Type I LOA
