(LOT 86)
Amazing 1927 Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb & Eddie Collins PSA Type I Original Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 9-1/2" – Full PSA Type 1 LOA

Talk about three baseball giants in one photo! Indeed, this absolutely breathtaking 1927 Underwood & Underwood PSA Type 1 photo amazingly includes Hall of Fame immortals Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Eddie Collins with the "Sultan of Swat" actually shaking hands with an atypical smiling "Georgia Peach". Measuring approximately 8" x 9-1/2", the superbly contrasted image reveals relatively clean surfaces, only compromised by some minor wrinkles near the upper corners. The verso reflects the critical Underwood & Underwood credit stamp as well as a pencil notation dating it to 1927 opening day at Yankee Stadium. Fresh off their tough seven-game World Series loss to St. Louis in 1926, the Yankees would claim first place on April 12, 1927 with an 8-3 win in their season opener at Yankee Stadium against Connie Mack's Athletics, with this hallowed image taken directly before the game.

Both Ruth and Collins would go hitless that day while Cobb would manage to scratch out a single. Incredibly, the Yankees would never relinquish first place after this season opening victory, finishing with 110 wins to win the A.L. pennant by a staggering 19 games over the second-place Philadelphia Athletics and continuing on to the Fall Classic where they swept the overmatched Pirates in four games. Interestingly, for the 1927 season, Connie Mack would purchase both Cobb and Collins to bolster his already formidable roster that included Cooperstown inductees Foxx, Simmons, Cochrane, Wheat and Grove. Unfortunately, even adding the great Cobb and Collins to that extensive list of legends was no match for what is arguably considered the greatest of all Yankee teams and possibly the finest baseball team to ever grace a diamond.

Simply stated, words aren't sufficient to properly define the stature of this museum worthy masterpiece that portrays Ruth in his classic Yankee pinstripes with both Cobb and Collins sporting their period-style Athletic jackets. As an aftermath, the Yankees would move on to claim two consecutive world titles before being dethroned by these same Athletics from 1929 thru 1931, of which Mack's mighty A's would claim two championships of their own (1929 & 1930). A remarkable tribute to three of our National Pastime's most iconic stars including the incomparable "Bambino", it unquestionably merits the highest hobby accolades! – Full PSA Type I LOA -
