1928 Classic Babe Ruth Swinging Pose (1928 World Series Game 4 Batting Practice) – PSA Type I Original Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 11" – Full PSA Type 1 LOA
The 1928 season would see the mighty New York Yankees capture their second consecutive World Championship, once again sweeping their National League opponent in four straight games. This time it was the St. Louis Cardinals who fell prey to the seemingly invincible Yankees "Murderer's Row," led once again by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig's uncanny fence bashing prowess. The "Iron Horse" would swat four round trippers in the Series while the "Bambino" would wallop three dingers in the Game 4 clincher that would tie his single game mark set in a 1926 Fall Classic game against the same Cardinals. As a magnificent heirloom from that 1928 Game 4 performance, presented here is a classic PSA Type 1 Ruth batting photo as he completes his colossal "Ruthian" swing in what we assume to be batting practice at St. Louis' Sportsman's Park before the October 14th game 4 contest.
Clearly stamped "OCT. 15, 1928" on the verso, we can only assume this imposing Ruth batting image was taken the day before when the Yankees bested the Cardinal's to claim their World Series title. Ruth is donning his period-style Yankees road uniform as he gazes up to watch his mammoth drive most likely sail towards the furthest confines of Sportsman's Park. The timeless image reveals fine contrast and registration, with no obtrusive blemishes to the critical central image. Via its somewhat wavy edging, the illustration has obviously been trimmed down to an approximate 7" x 11" size, justifying the likely notion that this already atypically oversized image once reflected larger dimensions.
For full disclosure, it appears that two vertical faint pencil lines have been affixed to the right and left of Ruth, neither of which compromises the awe-inspiring aesthetics emanating from Ruth's spine-tingling pose. A possible "one of a kind" image, this is the sole copy we have ever encountered, and one that via its historical link to the "Sultan of Swat's" incredible 3-homer performance in the World Series 1928 clincher, stands worthy of an esteemed place in any advanced Ruth or photo compilation! – Full PSA Type I LOA
