(LOT 80)
1938 Lou Gehrig Photo – "Gehrig Approaches 2,000 Consecutive Games" - PSA Type I Original Times Wide World Photos – Measures Approx. 6" x 8" – Full PSA Type 1 LOA

For all of Lou Gehrig's remarkable batting achievements, he will always be best remembered for his 2,130 consecutive-game streak, accounting for his hallowed "Iron Horse" nickname. On May 31, 1938, Gehrig would play in his 2,000th consecutive game as the Yankees bested the Boston Red Sox by a 12-5 score at Yankee Stadium. This spectacular Lou Gehrig PSA Type 1 photo portrays "Larruping Lou" in a classic "kneeling on one knee/leaning on bat" pose on the concrete steps of the Yankee Stadium dugout, only a few games away from playing in that prestigious 2,000th consecutive game.

Lou's stoic pose literally transcends time as the crystal clear "Iron Man" image exhibits a good-natured smile, donning his distinguished Yankee pinstripes. The reverse side caption dated May 23, 1938 clearly notes that Gehrig is approaching the 2,000-game milestone as well as providing several of his nicknames and mentioning his "Rawhide" and "Top Gun" western movies. The critical WIDE WORLD PHOTOS INC. credit stamp is likewise affixed to the verso with the only negligible flaw being a modest crease near the upper right quadrant's edging.

Gehrig's collectibles from his playing days continue to skyrocket in value and why not! His incomparable farewell "Luckiest Man on the Face Of The Earth" speech at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939 will forever be regarded as our National Pastime's Gettysburg Address. Furthermore, his 493 round trippers, .340 lifetime average and nearly 2,000 runs batted in substantiate in a resounding manner his nearly unparalleled batting prowess that place him near the top of most historians' all-time players! - Full PSA Type I LOA
