Super High Condition 1928 First Edition Babe Ruth's Own Book of Baseball

One of the most highly coveted Babe Ruth periodicals is his distinguished 1928 BABE RUTH'S OWN BOOK of BASEBALL, with this "First Edition" copy portraying a super high-quality dustcover. One of the finest high-grade examples in the hobby, it was issued the year after Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees turned the baseball world upside down via their unparalleled 1927 season. Having walloped 60 round trippers in that historic 1927 season, the timing was perfect for issuing a book on the life of the incomparable George Herman Ruth. Written by Ruth himself (the lower dustcover boldly reads "By George Herman Ruth," the book was published by G.P. Putnam's Sons in New York City, and underneath the popular dustcover, the actual front/back covers and spine are both completely intact.

A wonderful array of black & white Ruth pictures are included as well as his renowned Yankee teammates with all of the original pages included. An accompanying rare postcard was likewise issued that year (also included in this auction), with many of the advertisement and/or marketing schemes for the book reading as follows (including the verso of the related postcard in this auction): "Babe Ruth tells the story of his life – how he started in to play the game and how he broke into big league baseball. He gives us fascinating glimpses into big league play. The book is full of intimate, revealing and amusing anecdotes about the author and others.

It has a detailed analysis of the plays from every position on the diamond, colored by humorous and pertinent anecdotes about the good and bad plays of the past. Here, too, are stories about players great and small with whom he has been personally acquainted. A book which will delight any baseball fan." Also adding to the colossal popularity of the book is the eye pleasing cover that includes the classic "Ruthian" batting image originally taken at New York's legendary Polo Grounds in the early 1920's.

This image was likewise utilized for some of Ruth's prominent cardboard issues including his 1929/'30 Rogers Peet and 1932 Sanella. Babe Ruth unquestionably stands as our National Pastime's greatest player to ever grace a baseball diamond. The combination of his pitching and batting exploits are unparalleled in baseball history, justifying why this spectacular offering merits the utmost attention from any world-class periodical or Babe Ruth collector!
