(LOT 38)
1910 E98 "Black Swamp" Miner Brown – Orange Background (PSA NM 7) – No Orange Background Examples Graded Higher!

One of Mordecai "Three Fingered" Brown's most coveted issues is his E98 Anonymous subject that clearly exhibits his mangled right fingers that eventually led him to becoming one of our National Pastime's greatest pitchers to ever toe a rubber. With that in mind, presented here is a brilliant E98 "Black Swamp" Miner Brown PSA 7 gem that has not been bested by a single example!

One of the dead-ball eras legendary Hall of Famers, Brown achieved his iconic nickname when as a young farm boy he accidently stuck his hand in a corn shredder, severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger. Fortunately for Brown, his deformed hand eventually seemed to be the primary reason for the movement on his pitches, leading him to 239 career wins and a spectacular 2.06 lifetime E.R.A. that ranks as the 3rd best lifetime figure behind Walsh and Joss (and surprisingly better than Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson!).

He was as good if not better than all "dead-ball" era pitchers, explaining why advanced enthusiasts scramble to obtain his rarest cardboard relics. Virtually none could possibly surpass the prestige of this Black Swamp wonder that exhibits fine centering, dazzling white borders and a classic and immaculate-like Mordecai Brown image. An imposing autumn orange background, pinpoint corners and clean verso complete this seemingly timeless marvel that has withstood the test of time!
