(LOT 286)
Ty Cobb 1914 B18 Blanket – Scarcer "Brown Infield" – Superb Near-Mint Condition

The 1914 B18 square flannel "blankets" reside as one of the more ornate pre-WW1 type collectibles, with each side measuring approximately 5.5". B18's received their "blanket" name since many people cut them from their original strips, removing the back-side seal and sewing various subjects into a larger sized blanket. While the "white" infield subjects are common, "brown" infield variations are considered much scarcer, with this seldom surfacing "brown" infield Cobb one of the most highly coveted variations in the set. Adding to the desirability of this magnificent keepsake is the breathtaking condition of this "Georgia Peach" obscurity, with no obtrusive perimeter fraying and Cobb's classic batting stance portraying vivid resolution and fine contrast. The well-centered powder green base-paths and lightly brown hued infield all depict a bright/fresh look, and the aforementioned perimeter appears razor sharp.

The verso reveals a few negligible areas of soiling, none of which impede the stellar near-mint visual appeal. We cannot overemphasize the magnitude of this incredible marvel, especially considering it has eluded the standard flaws typically plaguing a majority of the existing B18 blankets. Ty Cobb's unparalleled standing has sparked an immense frenzy to capture any of the fiery Detroit outfielder's noteworthy collectibles. His batting prowess will echo for eternity, substantiating why enthusiasts strongly pursue Cobb artifacts depicting the 1936 Hall of Fame charter member in his iconic batting stance. This offering includes the classic Georgia Peach "hands separated" timeless batting pose within the scant brown infield, and it might take quite some time for another example exhibiting similar outstanding aesthetics to surface for the taking!
