(LOT 31)
Possibly "Unique" 1937 Goudey Thum Movie Empty Card Box in NM+ Condition

Arguably the most eclectic of all the popular 1930's Goudey Gum Company issues was their "Thum Movie" cards/flip booklets released in 1937 and 1938. A total of 13 players were released in the set with each subject having a "Part 1" and 'Part 2" issue for a total of 26 different flip books (2 for each player with black, green, blue and red colors). Measuring 2" x 3", these nebulous flip books were attached by a single staple whereby collectors could sequentially flip thru the pages and watch as though it was a movie. Dubbed with an ACC R342 designation and seldom surfacing in the hobby, these booklets are not encapsulated by either PSA or SGC since they are not designated as single cards. Even more obscure and possibly unique is the empty Goudey Thum Movie Box we are offering here that may suffice as the sole example in the hobby!

Portraying outstanding aesthetics, it emanates NM+ eye appeal with no obtrusive flaws evident throughout the entire box. The front/top portrays a radiant yellow and robust red surface as well as the bold blue text: "BIG LEAGUE CHEWING GUM ACTION PICTURES" that was die-cut for purposes of a vendor advertising the opened box and accompanying packs. Include are images of an opened booklet and baseball player batting and fielding line drawings. Seven "in- action" white silhouette baseball players depicting various throwing, batting, fielding and sliding poses are affixed to the lower red surface and the edging is completely intact. Both of the short side panels note there is a 100 count (within a baseball image) of packs in the box (one booklet per pack), with the blue and white bold text reading "BIG LEAGUE CHEWING GUM – A PRODUCT OF THE GOUDEY GUM COMPANY, BOSTON, MASS. USA.".

Similar to the box top's lower area, a long side panel likewise includes "in-action" white silhouette baseball players depicting various throwing, batting, fielding and sliding poses (eight total); however, these figures are affixed to a blue surface (as opposed to red). The final yellow hued side panel reads: "BUY GOUDEY'S GOOD GUMS", with each word of the thin blue text boldly underlined. Typical with most vendor boxes, the white bottom portion is blank. A magnificent keepsake from the extremely nebulous 1937 Goudey Thum set, to the best of our knowledge, it currently stands as the sole fully intact box, and virtually any advanced cardboard enthusiast's ultimate dream collectible!
