(LOT 29)
Miraculous 1954 Dan-Dee Complete PSA Graded "No-Wax Proof" Set!

While Topps and Bowman were still highly engaged in their "dogfight" for baseball card supremacy during the early 1950's, in 1954 the Dan-Dee Potato Chip Company staked their claim on the baseball card market. The condition sensitive wax surfaced Dan-Dee baseball cards distributed in packages of Dan-Dee Potato Chips were subjected to significant potato chip grease, leading to the immense difficulty for obtaining high-grade specimens. Of the 29 subjects, 22 depict a combination of Cleveland Indians (14) and Pittsburgh Pirates (8), with the remaining 7 subjects representing Yankees, Cardinals, Dodgers and Giants. In some instances, "proof" cards have surfaced in the hobby, revealing no wax and now authenticated "authentic" by PSA due to their "proof" status (some early PSA graded specimens previously received numerical grades).

Considered extremely rare, PSA only lists 24 of the 29 subjects as having a SINGLE ENCAPSULTED COPY. With that in mind, presented here is an absolutely remarkable complete Dan-Dee baseball card "no-wax proof" set completely graded by the renowned PSA Grading Company! Simply stated, the thought of owning a sole 1954 Dan-Dee "no-wax proof" specimen is an excruciating task, let alone owning an entire set! All of these cards present themselves in virtually MINT condition, depicting blistering sharp corners, blinding white borders, clean surfaces and crisp/bright images; presenting themselves as if they were just issued from their original printer.

Of special mention is the breathtaking Mickey Mantle subject that arguably resides as the finest preserved Mantle Dan-Dee example extant. It is nearly inconceivable that someone managed to compile this 29-card gathering that easily stands as one of the most miraculous post-war compilations extant. Eight of the 29 subjects are Hall of Famers and remarkably, 24 of the 29 players have only a SINGLE PSA listed "missing wax coating" classification. In order to substantiate the unparalleled paucity level associated with this offering, listed below is a list of each players' "pop" chart status with italicized Cooperstown inductees:

Lopez (Pop 1), Rosen (Pop 1), Houtteman (Pop 1), Avila (Pop 1), Feller (Pop 2), Friend (Pop 1), Lemon (Pop 1), Curtis Roberts (Pop 1), Mitchell
(Pop 1), Snider (Pop 1), Wynn (Pop 1), Thomas (Pop 1), Strickland (Pop 1), Hodges (Pop 1), Bauer (Pop 1), Hegan (Pop 1), Doby (Pop 1), Easter (Pop 1), Surkont (Pop 1), Mantle (Pop 4), Garcia (Pop 1), Irvin (Pop 1), Lapalm (Pop 2), Smith (Pop 1), Rizzuto (Pop 2), Schoendienst (Pop 1), Gordon (Pop 2), Cooper (Pop 1), Westlake (Pop 1)
