T206 UZIT Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder (SGC 40/3) - "1 of 1"; Only 2 Graded Higher on the COMBINED SGC and PSA "Pop" Charts!
UZIT COBB!!!... Presented here is one of the most incredible T206 remarkable T206 specimens extant! This extremely scarce SGC 40/3 T206 UZIT Ty Cobb easily resides as one of the most coveted tobacco gems in the hobby. Its extreme rarity is substantiated by the COMBINED SGC and PSA census reports that list this as the SOLE example at this eye pleasing "VG" plateau with only a meager 2 specimens graded higher! True, it is not a T206 Wagner, Plank, or Doyle variation, but considering the sheer paucity of ANY UZIT subject, the fact it represents the "Georgia Peach" coupled with its scarce technical assessment, this near impossible combination merits a solidified place near the top of the charts.
After the famous St. Louis Drum find, UZIT cards are arguably equal to DRUM in scarcity, and only a handful of tobacco cards can possibly boast the prestige of the Cobb/UZIT dynamic duo. In fact, considering there are only 10 encapsulated copies, it easily surpasses the rarity level of the iconic and ultra-valuable "Ty Cobb w/a Cobb Tobacco ad back" of which 22 copies are known to exist! Ty Cobb's unparalleled batting exploits rightfully earned him a 1936 Charter Membership to baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame with his unfathomable 12 batting titles in 13 seasons leading to a record .366 lifetime average.
Along with Babe Ruth and Joe Jackson, the "Georgia Peach" rules the pre-war card market, with his cardboard rarities high on the lists of our hobby's most esteemed enthusiasts. With that said, we cannot imagine a more formidable collectible than this T206 obscurity that seldom surfaces for the taking. Cobb's classic "bat off shoulder" image portrays his legendary "hands apart" batting grip as he prepares to stroke another one of his 4,189 safeties. The relatively well centered image reflects an array of bright blue, yellow, orange, and green hues, the corners exhibit aesthetically pleasing uniform wear, and other than a few stray wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye, no glaring surface blemishes are evident.
The flipside reveals the critical bold blue UZIT Cigarette advertisement along with the small factory related text: "Factory #30, 2nd Dist. State, N.Y." that are both affixed to a lightly toned surface. To reiterate, finding any T206 UZIT relic is a daunting challenge, let alone locating one that represents one of baseball's five greatest players to ever step foot on a diamond. This "rare for the grade" provides the advanced collector with superior scarcity for a highly coveted Ty Cobb tobacco card that would immediately stake a claim as the centerpiece attraction in any world-class T206 gathering!
