This miraculous 1910 Sweet Caporal P2 Pin 100% complete 204-subject PSA graded set arguably stands as one of the finest compilations in our illustrious hobby! Needless to say, our esteemed consignor went through an excruciating task assembling this extraordinary gathering of pins, such to the point that the lowest graded pin is a SOLE PSA 5. The remaining 203 subjects have been issued grades between "Ex/Mt 6" and "Mint 9", with a complete account of the technical assessments listed below. It simply bogglers the mind that such an extensive array of PSA graded pins could achieve the staggering 7.807 Set Rating, yet seeing is believing, and this comprehensive world-class offering virtually re-defines the true definition of "pinnacle status"!

The origin of the highly coveted P2 pins is traced back to the iconic American Tobacco Company (ATC) that had only recently released their landmark T206 tobacco cards only a year earlier. We can only assume that the unbridled success of the T206 issue prompted the ATC to distribute a different type of baseball player collectible with their desirable cigarette brands. The ATC chose light metal pins to piggyback off of their popular T206 cards, with these small relics also achieving a vast collector desirability similar to their tobacco card brethren. Issued between the years 1910 and 1912 and measuring 7/8" in diameter, 152 different players are known with 52 possible variations. These variations include pins with "large" letters (as opposed to the standard "small" letter names on the obverse side), and three players (Bresnahan, Mullin and Wallace) include an additional variation, resulting in three pins distributed for these subjects.

Interestingly, most of the player's portrait images are similar to the renowned T205 Gold Border tobacco cards distributed a year later in 1911, and the versos carry the prestigious "Sweet Caporal Cigarette" advertisement. Incredibly, a total of 46 Hall of Famers are incorporated in the complete set (approx. 23% of the set), with our National Pastime's greatest turn of the century stars including Cobb, Mathewson, Lajoie, Johnson, Speaker, Young, Collins and so many more. The staggering array of near-mint+ and "pop status" substantiates this compilation's hallowed stature. Incredibly, 188 or 92% of the pins have been graded "NM/7" to "Mint 9" including 10 "Mint 9's"; 122 "NM/MT 8's" and 56 "NM 7's" (15 – "EX/MT 6's" and one "EX 5" complete the 204 subjects).

Just as impressive is that 22 pins have NONE graded higher; 39 pins only 1 graded higher and 25 pins only 2 graded higher! Simply stated, 104-year old pin gatherings are not supposed to consist of such an extensive number of high-grade components, justifying why this incomparable set currently stands as the finest of its kind. In order to provide you with a complete account of this earth-shattering P2 set, we have listed two charts that depict ALL 204 subjects, their variations (if applicable) and respective PSA grades. It would take any meticulous collector years (if not decades... ) to possibly compile such an extensive array of high- grade P2 pins from scratch, and Memory Lane is proud to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to capture a P2 set that irrefutably resides as the "best of the rest" on the current PSA Set Registry!
