Dated October 19, 1955, on St. Louis Cardinals letterhead, August Busch Jr. writes to Bill Davenport, manager of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, expressing excitement for the upcoming spring in St. Petersburg. He mentions that Stan Musial and the team are gearing up to swing their bats for the 1955 season. Signed in blue felt tip, Busch, an American brewing magnate, transformed Anheuser-Busch into the world's largest brewery by 1957 and served as chairman from 1946 to 1975. As owner of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1953 until his passing, he became a significant figure in Major League Baseball.
