(LOT 1585)
1958 Mickey Mantle & Bill Skowron - Original Type 1 PSA Authentic Encapsulated New York Mirror Photo (Tony Bernato)

BACK-TO-BACK HRs!!! In 1958, Mickey Mantle and Bill Skowron hit 54 home runs. Mickey led the American League with 42 and Moose clouted 14. The ultimate most important statistic, however, from that season was capturing the Yankees' 18th World Series title over the Milwaukee Braves. On June 3rd, Mantle and Moose crushed back-to-back home runs of Chicago White Sox Dick Donovan. The offered 8" x 10" original Type 1 photograph captures the moment after Mickey clouted his dinger and greets Skowron moment before his homer. Their two home runs opened the floodgates as the Yankees crushed the White Sox 13-0 with Johnny Kucks throwing a 2-hitter. This PSA encapsulated image derives from photographer Tony Bernato of the New York Mirror and still carried the newspaper's 1958 caption and paper designation on the reverse. This is a wonderful image of Mickey Mantle crossing the plate with his teammate Skowron, Chicago catcher Sherm Lollar, umpire Eddie Rommel and the Yankees batboy looking on.
