1951 New York Yankees Ticket Stub Sep. 29 Mantle First Start at Centerfield PSA Authentic
MANTLE REPLACES DiMAGGIO!!! September 29, 1951 marked an iconic changing of the guard for the New York Yankees as Mickey Mantle made his first start in center field, replacing the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio, a position he only relinquished when injury befell him during his 18-year career. With the Yankees having sewn up the American League pennant and Joe DiMaggio retiring at season's end, Casey Stengel started Mickey, touted as the next Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio all rolled into one, in center for the final three games of the season. In those final three games, the Commerce Comet went 3-for-9 with two runs, three walks and three strikeouts. He only appeared in two games of the World Series before a knee injury knocked him out of the lineup. That injury at 19 would haunt him for the remainder of his career. Offered here is an historic September 29, 1951 ticket stub from Mickey's first start in center field. PSA has slabbed this beauty Authentic and the Upper Box seat stub remains in excellent condition.
