1968 Topps #177 Nolan Ryan Rookie PSA 8 NM-MT
WHY NOT A 9?!!! The 1968 Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman issue is one of the most significant and sought-after rookie examples in the hobby. In 1968, this duo went 25-21, with Kooz going 19-12, the most on the staff that also included Tom Seaver. Just as with a few other Hall of Fame hurlers, Ryan took a few seasons to get his feet under him, but when he did, YIKES! Nolan Ryan led the league in strikeouts 11 times, winning 10 or more games on 20 occasions. When it was all said and done, Jerry Koosman pitched 19 seasons, going 222-209 with 2,556 Ks, while Nolan Ryan became a 324-game winner and the strikeout king posting an untouchable 5,714 Ks over 27 seasons. They also threw seven no-hitters between them, but Koosman had none. Offered here is arguably the finest PSA 8 1968 Topps #177 Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman rookie card we have ever offered. It bewilders us as to why this incredible example did not garner the heralded 9 MINT assessment.
