1966 Topps #300 Roberto Clemente PSA 9 MINT
NOTHING CAN STOP ARRIBA!!! In 1965, while managing the San Juan Sendores in Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente had a freak accident that would plague him for months. While mowing the lawn, a rock hurtled from under his mower, striking his thigh and partially severing a ligament requiring surgery. Though it hindered his play initially playing in Puerto Rico, and the Pirates starting slow in 1965, Clemente and the Bucs went on a 12-game win streak to climb back into the pennant race as Roberto batted an astounding .458 during that span. In the end, and for the third time in his career, Roberto Clemente led the NL in hitting in 1965, batting .329 with 194 hits, ten home runs and 65 RBIs. (He led the NL once again in 1967 with a .357 BA.) In 1960 and 1971, Roberto Clemente won championships with the Pirates, but his 3,000 hits were his most beloved personal achievement as a goal he set when joining the Majors. Presented is his 1966 Topps #300 Roberto Clemente graded 9 MINT by PSA. The clarity is spectacular. Couple the clear surfaces with the delightful pink banners, along with superior sharpness and great centering, and this example is sure to upgrade even the finest of sets.
