1932 U.S. Caramel #26 Lou Gehrig PSA 7 NM
CARAMEL GEHRIG!!! Only a pitcher could have kept Lou Gehrig from winning his second American League MVP in 1931, and Lefty Grove held that honor after winning the pitching Triple Crown with 31 victories, 175 Ks and a 2.06 ERA. But Gehrig also had a near-career year as he led the AL in home runs (46), hits (211), runs (163) and drove in a league and career-high 185 runs. He was only six shy of Hack Wilson's number from 1930. Already an MVP from the historic 1927 season, Gehrig finished second in MVP voting in 1931 and 1932 and was without a doubt the best player in baseball.
Presented here is a 1931 U.S. Caramel #26 Henry (Lou) Gehrig graded 7 NM from PSA. Only 100 examples of Lou Gehrig exist in PSA holders and this one of eight has just eight superiors at the 8 NM-MT level. Offering a brilliant red background, the Yankees first baseman stands relaxed with his cap propped up. With fantastically clean and white borders, the image sits marginally off-center, favoring the bottom right corner and edge, but the perimeter remains sharp and crisp. Some OC is evident on the reverse, but the deep, dark, jet-black text and registration on the back are incredibly clean and without flaws. This beautiful Lou Gehrig is still one of his rarer examples, especially in high-grade and this one deserves heavy attention!
