(LOT 28)
1921 E253 Oxford Confectionery Ty Cobb PSA 6 EX-MT

RARE PEACH!!! At 34, you might expect a ballplayer to be past his prime, but that was not the case with Ty Cobb, as he still played seven more seasons, eventually retiring in 1928. Having already won 12 batting titles, an MVP and a 1909 Triple Crown, in 1922, Cobb hit .401, second to George Sisler's incredible .420. Cobb was still one of the most feared hitters and players in the game. When this issue was released in 1921, the Georgia Peach hit .389 with 12 homers, 22 stolen bases and 101 RBIs. Offered is a 1921 Oxford Confectionery E253 Ty Cobb graded 6 EX-MT by PSA.

The Pennsylvania-based candy manufacturer produced this 20-card set to commemorate the great players of the day including Cobb, Ruth, Hornsby, Johnson and Sisler, and the like, with Cobb and Ruth as the anchors among anchors. This 6 EX-MT issue is one of only four at this high-grade with only a single example graded higher. Slightly more than 450 examples have been encapsulated by PSA, making this rare offering one on which to focus. With superb crystal-clear imagery, excellent borders and clean surfaces, this rare Cobb deserves the best of gatherings.
