(LOT 24)
1921 E253 Oxford Confectionery "Babe" Ruth PSA 5 EX

RARE RUTH!!! One of the most coveted cards is an early 1920s Babe Ruth Yankees issue, for there are truly a minimal number of The Babe's cards issued during his 1920-21 New York Yankee playing days. His 1921 Oxford Confectionery E253 resides as one of Ruth's most desirable cardboard keepsakes. Aside from his 1920 Headin' Home theatre cards, Babe Ruth's 1921 Oxford issue stands as his inaugural Yankee card with Ruth in his new Yankees attire. In 1921, the Oxford Confectionery Co. of Oxford, PA produced a 20-subject set and appeased Ruth's captivated fans by using an image that reflects Ruth's New York road jersey.

Presented here is one of the most amazing Babe Ruth E253 Oxford Confectionery subjects ever encapsulated: a magnificent PSA 5 EX example, the only issue at this level with only two superiors making this high-grade example one to own. A total of 34 have been encased by PSA and this is the third finest. Ruth's image depicts crystal-clear clarity, modest, yet even, corner wear consistent with the grade (more notable wear is apparent along the right edging), no obtrusive surface flaws are evident on either side and the back's 20-subject checklist is completely intact, the final stamp of approval for a card that is excruciatingly tough to find with a 5 EX assessment.

The 1921 season would virtually mark The Babe's last on the mound as he went 2-0 for the Yankees, but from the plate, he was just getting started. Having led the AL the previous three years in home runs, Ruth again set the mark with 59 dingers in 1921, driving in 168 runs and posting an insane .846 slugging percentage. This superb example is destined for the finest of collections, one in need of an upgrade!
