(LOT 10)
1907-09 Dietsche Chicago Cubs Postcard Complete SGC-Graded Set of 15 - Quite Possibly the Finest Set to be Offered

The 1907 World Series was one of the oddest as Major League Baseball was still trying to iron out any issues of the Fall Classic. It was only the fourth championship series pitting the National League against the American League and began with a tie as the first game was called due to darkness. Rather than continue the game the following day, Game 2 began, and it is the first of only three ties in World Series play called due to darkness. With the Chicago Cubs facing the Detroit Tigers, Motor City's local printing company, A.C. Dietsche, produced a postcard set featuring each player from both teams.

Offered here is a complete set featuring the Chicago Cubs, all graded by SGC. As victors of the five-game series that saw Chicago win 4-0-1, this collection features some heavy hitters and premier talent including the famed Tinker to Evers to Chance Hall of Fame trio and double-play turning machine. The following issues reside as the highest graded examples including: SGC 7.5: Carl Lundgren; SGC 7: Arthur Hoffman, Johnny Evers, Edward Reulbach; SGC 6.5: Harry Steinfeldt, Patrick Moran; SGC 6: James Sheckard; and SGC 5: Mordecai Brown. The remaining seven postcards have only a single example graded higher including: SGC 7: Frank Schulte; SGC 6.5: James Slagle; SGC 6: Orval Overall; SGC 5.5: John Kling, Frank Chance & Joe Tinker. Also included is SGC 2: John Pfeister. This amazing complete SGC-graded Chicago Cubs set from 1907 is arguably the finest set ever assembled and most assuredly the best we have ever offered.
