1932 U.S. Caramel #32 Babe Ruth PSA 3 VG
CALLED SHOT CAMPAIGN!!!... Presented here is a splendid PSA 3 VG 1932 U.S. Caramel Babe Ruth, with its rather obscure existence pale in comparison versus the abundance of 1933 Goudey Ruths. This is justified by PSA listing only 150+ U.S. Caramel Ruths versus a substantial 5,400+ Goudey Ruths for all four subjects, an average of some 1,350 per subject! Indeed, Babe's 1932 Caramel PSA population is only 11% of a single Goudey Ruth! Collectors are catching on to the relative scarcity of the 1932 Caramel Ruth, with a PSA 8 fetching $200,000 in a spring 2023 public auction and another PSA 3 example realizing $25K in 2022. Ruth's eclectic portrait pose is unique for the U.S. Caramel subject, with no other issue depicting this classic image. Also scarce is the "GEORGE "BABE" RUTH" text above his Yankees cap, with typical border toning, general surface wear on both sides, some light stray creases, a faint surface abrasion near his left shoulder, and corner wear preventing a higher assessment. Issued during the campaign when the Sultan of Swat would wallop his iconic "Called Shot" home run off of the Wrigley Field scoreboard in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, it turns back the clock some 92 years to that majestic moment that turned the baseball world upside down!
