1933 Goudey #119 Signed Rogers Hornsby PSA/DNA Authentic
SIGNED RAJAH!!!... A collector favorite, the 1933 Goudey #119 Rogers Hornsby subject has always held a special place in the hearts of vintage hobbyists, with Hornsby's classic fielding pose portraying the Hall of Fame second sacker scooping up a ground ball. Presented here just happens to be that hallowed Goudey subject signed by the immortal 2nd baseman, with Hornsby's bold blank ink signature running across his period-style white flannels. Presenting solid "8" strength, this is only one of five PSA authenticated #119 signed Hornsby subjects, highly regarded as one of the toughest Cooperstown inductee Goudeys to capture with an accompanying autograph. The Rajah arguably stands as our National Pastime's greatest all-time right-handed hitter (with all due respect to Aaron & Foxx). Hornsby was widely considered baseball's foremost batter during the 1920s via his unfathomable five-year run from 1921 through 1925 that produced three .400+ batting seasons and a record-setting .401 batting average over that historic span.
Ultimately ending his career with the second highest lifetime batting average (.358) behind Ty Cobb, Hornsby would claim one World Championship as a player/manager in 1926 when his Cardinals bested the Yankees in a seven-game contest. Likewise, this stupendous offering provides championship caliber via its vibrant hues, relatively clean surfaces and overall VG aesthetics. For full resolution, there is a light pencil "4" notation on the verso's upper left quadrant, with the obverse side's imposing "Rogers Hornsby" ink script stealing the show. Its superior hobby stature is justified by the $22K sale of another signed example in August 1920, with this elusive marvel presenting a grand opportunity to claim ownership of one of the most illustrious 1933 Goudey autographed subjects!
