(LOT 135)
1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder UZIT PSA 2.5 GOOD+

UZIT COBB!!!... Presented here is one of the most incredible T206 specimens extant, an ultra-rare PSA 2.5 GOOD+ T206 Uzit Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder prize that proudly resides as one of the foremost tobacco gems in the hobby. Its extremely elusive status is justified by only eight examples being listed on the illustrious PSA population report, with this POP 1 masterpiece bested by a meager two PSA specimens! SGC's census report only reflects five total copies, further justifying the excruciating task of locating any professionally graded subject. True, while it is not a T206 Wagner, Plank, or Doyle variation, one must ponder the sheer paucity level of ANY Uzit subject, and considering this grand offering represents the iconic Georgia Peach, it merits a solidified standing as one of the foremost T206s. The prestigious T206 Resource website lists the obscure T206 Uzit ad-back subject as the sixth rarest of all 39 possible cigarette advertisements (directly behind Drum in scarcity order), and the fact that this particular Uzit boasts Ty Cobb's regal image immediately places it as one of the most significant T206s on the planet. Substantiating that notion was the $100K sale of a PSA 6 example in a Memory Lane 2019 summer auction, with a lower graded PSA 1.5 recently fetching a lofty $54K in May 2024.

A momentous dynamic duo, any Cobb/Uzit tobacco treat is far scarcer than even the exalted and ultra-valuable "Ty Cobb with a Cobb Tobacco ad-back", of which some 25 copies are known to exist. Cobb's uncanny batting achievements rightfully earned him a 1936 HOF charter membership, with his unfathomable 12 batting titles in 13 seasons leading to a record .366 lifetime average. The splendid eye-appeal is spearheaded by the brilliant Tyrus bat-off-shoulder pose revealing his classic hands-apart batting grip that led to an incredible 4,189 safeties. A striking array of green, blue, orange and gray hues, vivid registration, and the lack of any glaring surface blemishes are the highlights of this time-defying memento, with even corner wear (including some modest layering and enamel peel) accounting for the assessment. Of course, the final superlative is the critical bold blue Uzit Cigarette advertisement along with the factory related text reading "Factory #30, 2nd Dist. State, N.Y." To reiterate, considering a lower graded PSA 1.5 example fetched $54K earlier this spring, we cannot even begin to estimate the true value of this higher graded and eye-popping Georgia Peach Uzit rarity!
