1911 M131 Baltimore News Newsboy Series Johnny Evers SGC 2 GOOD
THE CRAB!!!... This extremely rare SGC 2 GOOD 1911 Baltimore News Baltimore Newsboy Johnny Evers is one of only five existing examples on the SGC census report, with PSA listing none! One of Evers' scarcest issues, this M131 marvel is part of a 30-subject set that mirrors the E94 George Close Candy compilation, with the exception of the verso's upper caption reading "The Baltimore News Newsboy Series." All the players and checklist numbers for the M131 and E94 sets are exactly the same, with the first 35 boys completing the Baltimore News set offered $1 each. The dismal five M131 Evers specimens represent a fractional 6.9% of the 72 E94 George Close Candy graded copies, substantiating the immense scarcity of the Baltimore News issue. HOF second sacker Johnny Evers' fielding pose is uncompromised by the surrounding stray wrinkles, rounded corners, and general surface wear, with the near-perfect centering and relatively clean M131 30-subject checklist the final superlatives!
