(LOT 1899)
1967 Chicago Bears & Old Timers Multi-Signed Football PSA/DNA LOA

This football has been signed by 49 1967 Chicago Bears and Old-Timers in black marker. Highlights include Brian Piccolo, Rudy Kuechenberg, Joe Fortunato, Phil Handler, and Hall of Fame inductees George Halas (Owner/Coach), Sid Luckman, Dick Butkus and George Connor. PSA notes there are 11 unidentifiable signatures. The Bears finished with a 7–6–1 record, earning them a second-place finish in the newly formed Central Division within the NFL's Western Conference. 1967 also marked the final season with George Halas as the team's head coach. Halas, one of the founders of the NFL, continued as the owner of the franchise until his death in 1983. What makes this football very important is that Piccolo was only about 24 years old when he signed it. He died at 26 from embryonal cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of germ cell testicular cancer, first diagnosed after it had spread to his chest cavity. Piccolo was the subject of the 1971 TV movie Brian's Song and was portrayed by James Caan. Unfortunately, the football doesn't hold air, but it displays very nicely. Accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA.
