1949 Bowman #226 Duke Snider Rookie PSA 8 NM-MT
DUKE'S ROOKIE!!! Duke Snider's most iconic card is his 1949 Bowman rookie, presented here in a fine PSA 8 holder. The Duke of Flatbush certainly needs no introduction within the collecting community. Along with Mays and Mantle, Snider battled throughout the 1950s for New York supremacy at the centerfield position. One of the few players in baseball history to have hit 40 or more home runs in five consecutive seasons, and the first National Leaguer to accomplish that feat, the Duke was adored by a seemingly infinite number of Brooklyn Dodger fanatics. The card itself reveals an imposing Snider portrait pose encompassed by a near-flawless mustard yellow background, while reflecting a rough left-edge factory cut. Although the classic image does favor the left edge and depicts a miniscule off-registration, the eye-popping illustration, pack-fresh surfaces, and right-angled corners more than substantiate the hallowed assessment!
