c.1949 Joe DiMaggio PSA Type 1 Encapsulated HY Peskin Photo Used for Life Magazine's August 1, 1949 Issue (Photo on Pages 66 & 67) – Measures 10" x 8"

CLASSIC JOLTIN' JOE!!! This extraordinary PSA Type 1 HY Peskin photo was used for the legendary Joe DiMaggio article in Life Magazine's August 1, 1949 issue. Who could ever forget that iconic "It's Great To be Back" 1949 Life Magazine cover story that included a momentous Joltin' Joe portrait on the front cover and this captivating batting image spread across pages 66 and 67. Indeed, the immortal Yankee Clipper would wait some four years after his return from the US Army Air Forces to give a storied interview on how it truly felt to be back playing major league baseball. The great Joe D. would miss three full years during WWII, commencing his service on February 17, 1953 and being medically discharged in September 1945 due to chronic stomach ulcers.

This spine-tingling marvel reveals one of baseball's greatest all-time center fielders donning his Yankees-road gray flannels and completing his mighty swing, with the catcher, umpire, and grandstands in the background. Measuring approximately 10" x 8", the image was taken at the 1949 All-Star game played on July 12, 1949 at Brooklyn's Ebbets Field, with the AL besting the Senior Circuit 11-7. Played before 32,577 fans, in typical fashion, the Yankee Clipper would knock in three runs via a single and double. Eluding any unsightly flaws, the crystal-clear batting pose truly steals the show, with the traditional Americana bunting draped along the lower stands. The final compliment is the verso's critical HY Peskin/Life Magazine credit stamp, with this world-class photo previously selling for $24K!
