(LOT 962)
1909-11 T206 Rube Waddell Portrait Sweet Caporal 150/25 PSA 6 EX-MT

BRILLIANT RUBE!!! One of baseball's greatest all-time southpaws was the flamethrowing and flaky Cooperstown inductee Rube Waddell, with his brilliant T206 Portrait Sweet Cap 150 presented here in a PSA 6 holder. Rube still owns the AL record for strikeouts by a left-handed twirler, whiffing 349 batters in 1904. His crazy on-and-off the field habits included chasing fire engines and doing cartwheels on the mound. After spending several years in the minor leagues, Waddell tragically passed away in 1914 due to the ill effects of tuberculosis, obtained by helping Kentucky flood victims after standing for hours in icy water to place sandbags on a river embankment. Waddell's classic Carl Horner portrait pose depicts amazing clarity and one of the boldest blue backgrounds imaginable, flanked by dazzling white borders and eluding any obtrusive surface flaws. Mild corner wear projecting an eye-pleasing uniformity is the final exclamation point for this breathtaking 1909 marvel, issued during Waddell's next-to-last MLB campaign!
