1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Portrait Red Sweet Caporal 350/30 PSA 6 EX-MT

RED PORTRAIT TYRUS!!! Along with the "Holy Grail" T206 Honus Wagner and 1952 Topps Mantle, one of the most recognizable baseball card images is Carl Horner's iconic Ty Cobb portrait pose gracing two of his T206 subjects. Both the green and red background T206 Ty Cobb portrait cards boast this immortal illustration, boldly defining the legendary Georgia Peach's unequivocal legacy. That said, presented here just happens to be one of the finest eye-pleasing PSA 6 EX-MT Cobb Red Portrait examples you will ever come across, an eye-popping 1910 Sweet Caporal 350 Subjects/Factory 30 marvel bolstered by its robust red setting. By 1910, the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb's lightning-fast bat was beginning to steal some of the thunder from Pittsburgh's great Honus Wagner.

The legendary Georgia Peach would claim his fourth consecutive batting title in 1910, posting a sensational .382 mark while also pacing the Junior Circuit with a likewise impressive 1.004 OPS (on his way to an unprecedented 12 American League batting titles in a 13-year span, including nine successive seasons). Cobb's revered name was now widespread amongst baseball die-hards, as he was about to surpass the Flying Dutchman as our National Pastime's foremost player. That same 1910 campaign, the American Tobacco Company would issue Cobb's 350 Subjects T206 cards, with this Sweet Caporal 350/30 EX-MT variation being one of only five PSA examples listed at this desirable plateau, with a mere three specimens graded higher. As previously stated, hobbyists are well aware of the renowned stature of any T206 Ty Cobb portrait keepsake, with Horner's classic portrait portrayal of the incomparable Cobb a bona fide cornerstone image.

One look at this exalted illustration literally transcends time back to a by-gone era when the esteemed Tyrus ruled the diamond via his unparalleled skill sets. He could hit, run, throw and field as well as anyone who ever played the grand old game, with his ultra-competitive nature second to none. This particular offering reveals an extremely well-centered pose of the Tigers superstar, set against a bold red background that has miraculously eluded any notable surface blemishes. The renowned image only exhibits a smidge of favoritism towards the right edge between four bright white borders, with some negligible toning situated near the upper right corner. The timeless pose has remained unscathed over the past 114 years, and the even corner wear is consistent with the grade.

Crystal-clear clarity, bright facial hues, and splendid contrast all combine to emanate a pack-fresh aura, with a relatively clean verso depicting a bold red Sweet Caporal Cigarettes advertisement. Regarding its potential value, another PSA 6 Red Cobb achieved a lofty price tag of $46K back in 2021, with numerous EX-MT examples consistently fetching between $25K and $35K over the past several years. This T206 offering truly conjures up memories of how the exalted Cobb wore out pitchers to the tune of a record-setting .366 lifetime batting average via his 4,189 safeties, remarkable achievements that will echo for eternity. One of the most sought-after world-class cards extant, its breathtaking aesthetics, formidable PSA 6 grade, and quintessential portrait pose all combine to substantiate its majestic stature!
