(LOT 419)
1914 Cracker Jack #87 Hick Cady High-Number PSA 2.5 GOOD+

HICK CADY!!! Over the course of his seven-year Major League career, Forrest "Hick" Cady held a spot in the lineup more so due to his defensive abilities behind the plate as opposed to at the plate with a bat in his hands. With the Boston Red Sox from 1912 to 1917, however, Cady was able to help the Beantown team capture three World Series titles in 1912, 1915, & 1916. Beginning in 1912, Forrest earned the confidence of BoSox ace Smoky Joe Wood and eventually became Wood's preferred catcher for his starts. He helped guide Wood to a league-leading 34 wins, 35 complete games and ten shutouts in 1912. For seven seasons, Hick Cady softly batted .240 with one home run and 74 RBIs in 355 games. Offered here is a 1914 Cracker Jack #87 Hick Cady presented in a 2.5 GOOD+ holder from PSA. With only 21 Cady subjects ever graded, this one is a rarity to be sure. Good borders and expected century-old storage soiling, but clear reverse text.
