1972 Topps #309 Roberto Clemente PSA 10 GEM MINT

GEM MINT CLEMENTE!!! Not since Honus Wagner had the Pittsburgh Pirates carried a superstar quite like Roberto Clemente. His five-tool skills were reminiscent of Mays and Mantle, but this time playing in the Steel City. Clemente wowed fans from right with a cannon arm and was one of the great hitters of the 1960s. He collected 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards, as well as 15 All-Star nominations, four NL batting titles, two World Series and the 1966 NL MVP Award. The 1972 Topps card was issued after Clemente put on one of the most spectacular World Series performances when, in 1971, he won the World Series MVP after batting an exceptional .414 with 12 hits, including two home runs, and driving in four runs. Sadly, the 1972 season would be his last, as he was tragically killed in a plane crash while attempting to deliver supplies to the people of earthquake-ravaged Nicaragua. The offered 1972 Topps #309 Clemente holdered GEM MINT 10 by PSA displays a brilliant baseball stadium background, with the image atypically portraying perfect centering between four absolutely blinding white borders. This GEM MINT 10 example notably lacks any image tilt, with so many 1972 subjects reflecting somewhat skewed illustrations. A flawless high-glossed surface, razor-sharp corner tips and pristine surfaces complete this superb masterpiece that deserves a new home in one of the finest 1972 PSA Registered Topps gatherings!
