1909 E101 "Set of 50" Honus Wagner Throwing PSA 2 GOOD

THE FLYING DUTCHMAN!!! The 1909 E101 "Set of 50" candy cards are considered extremely condition-sensitive, with this PSA 2 GOOD Honus Wagner Throwing marvel being one of only four specimens at this plateau while being bested by a paltry three examples! Much scarcer than its Batting brethren, PSA only lists 16 total Throwing examples versus 27 Batting copies. It's no secret that most Honus Wagner cards are skyrocketing in value, initially propelled by subjects exhibiting his iconic T206 portrait image. This particular pose is legendary as well, also utilized on the Flying Dutchman's E92, E102, E106, and T216 pre-WWI issues. The classic image is highlighted by a sparkling array of tranquil hues, with the unscathed throwing pose eluding a faint diagonal wrinkle in the upper left quadrant as well as a diagonal crease near the lower left corner. Although rounded corners and scattered soiling on the verso also prevent a higher assessment, the significant Wagner image provides eye appeal superior to the grade. Issued during the year when the immortal Honus would lead the Pirates in a captivating seven-game World Series victory over Cobb's Tigers, it continues to be one of Wagner's most coveted early 20th century keepsakes!
