(LOT 91)
1965 Topps #320 Bob Gibson PSA 10 GEM MINT - POP 2

PERFECT GIBBY!!! This extraordinary PSA 10 GEM MINT 1969 Topps Bob Gibson marvel offering just happens to be one of only two PSA examples at the pinnacle plateau and a perfect testament to Gibby's miraculous 1968 campaign when he would claim both the NL Cy Young and MVP Awards. Indeed, the flame throwing right-hander compiled one of baseball's greatest seasons ever in 1968, winning 22 games, completing an astonishing 28 of his starts, striking out a league-leading 268 batters while posting a beyond unfathomable 1.12 ERA in 304 innings of work. That figure still stands as the third lowest figure in modern MLB history, trailing only Dutch Leonard's 0.96 (1914) and Mordecai Brown's 1.04 (1906) ERAs that were both achieved in the Deadball Era when home runs were few and far between.

Pack-fresh to say the least, the card itself is an absolute blazer, revealing a classic pitching pose of the legendary right-hander and boasting immaculate surfaces as well as sparkling hues, including the bold red pennant, and radiant yellow "BOB GIBSON" text within the black border. Atypically, the virtually perfect centering reveals zero tilt, a common flaw of most 1969 subjects, with the blisteringly sharp corner tips, and blinding white borders being the final superlatives substantiating the near-impossible PSA 10 assessment. Gibson would claim his first 20-win season in 1965, while completing 20 games and whiffing 270 overmatched hitters. Indeed, this fireball hurling right-hander with a filthy slider was just getting his feet wet, for in three years he would post one of the greatest pitching campaigns in baseball history!
