(LOT 23)
1911 T205 Gold Border Mordecai Brown Sweet Caporal Cigarettes PSA 8 NM-MT – Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!

THREE FINGER GEM!!! Presented here is one of Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown's most extraordinary cards, a super eye-pleasing PSA 8 NM-MT 1911 Gold Border Sweet Caporal Cigarettes gem that, along with three other 8 examples, has only been bested by a single specimen! One of the dead-ball eras legendary Hall of Famers, Brown achieved his iconic nickname when, as a young farm-boy, he accidentally stuck his hand in a corn shredder, severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger.

Fortunately for Brown, his deformed hand eventually seemed to be the primary reason for the uncanny movement on his pitches, leading him to 239 career wins and a spectacular 2.06 lifetime ERA that ranks as the third finest lifetime figure behind Ed Walsh and Addie Joss. He was as good if not better than all dead-ball era pitchers, with this Gold Border marvel remarkably including virtually all of its original gild border hue, stubbornly defying the ultra-condition sensitivity of this plagued issue. Robust facial hues, pinpoint corners, fine centering (only slightly favoring the upper edge), and pack-fresh surfaces all justify the hallowed grade that, similar to Brown's superior pitching stature, places this card near the top of the charts!
