(LOT 634)
1949 Bowman #50 Jackie Robinson Rookie PSA 5.5 EX+

ROOKIE BUM!!!... In 1947, Jackie Robinson shook professional baseball to its core when he took the field on April 15th as the first African American player in the Major Leagues. His inclusion on the Opening Day lineup for the Brooklyn Dodgers changed the game of professional baseball forever, and for the better. No longer were exceptional ballplayers kept segregated due to the color of their skin, as Jackie Robinson ushered in a new era. But, the significance of his MLB debut was not some Bill Veeck gimmick, Robinson was a ballplayer and he showed EVERYONE that he belonged, capturing the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1947.

He would follow that up two years later with an N.L. MVP award in 1949 and then in 1955 he help led the Brooklyn Dodgers to their first World Series championship in franchise history. This fantastically colored rookie card of Jackie features the jovial first baseman with a smile from ear-to-ear against a robust crimson background. This 1949 Bowman #50 rookie card looks better than the offered grade of 5.5 EX+ by PSA. With clean surfaces, brilliant color and excellent borders, this one deserves a second look. This Rookie is a true eye-catcher of one of the most consequential figures in the history of Major League Baseball.
