1928 Yuengling's #27 Ty Cobb PSA 4 VG-EX – "POP 5"; Highest Graded PSA Example!
HIGHEST GRADED TYRUS!!!... In 1928, a number of popular ice cream manufacturers issued baseball cards with their brand products including Yuengling's, Tharp and Harrington's. As is the case with any 1920s baseball set, one of the most popular and valuable subjects for these highly coveted ice cream subjects is Tyrus Raymond Cobb, with his super scarce Yuengling's subject presented here in a rare for the grade PSA 4 VG-EX holder. Indeed, synonymous to Cobb's premier batting excellence is this grand offering's PSA Pop chart stature that lists it as the highest graded example along with a mere four other specimens! Similar to Babe Ruth, nebulous 1920s black & white Ty Cobb issues are taking off in desirability and value like an uncontrollable brush fire, with the Georgia Peach's majestic stature sparking this pricing frenzy.

Unlike the myriad of pre-1920 tobacco and candy Cobb issues, a much more excruciating task is locating his much scarcer 1920s caramel and ice cream card issues. Justifying this notion is the total number of Yuengling's Cobb cards (only 18 current PSA examples) easily representing less than 1% (or a fraction) of his classic T206 subjects. Cobb's timeless black & white batting pose reveals fine resolution and a somewhat light contrast, atypically well centered between four mildly toned borders. The classic grandstands providing a picture-perfect setting, and the verso reflects a redemption offering whereby one gallon of Yuengling's ice cream will be delivered free in exchange for a complete set of 60 subjects. Even corner wear and some soiling on the verso account for the mid-grade assessment that, like Cobb's unparalleled batting exploits, places this pinnacle marvel as the finest of its kind!
