(LOT 557)
1928 Tharp's Ice Cream #25 Hack Wilson SGC 4 VG-EX - "POP 2"; Only One SGC Example Graded Higher!

HACK WILSON RARITY!!!... One of Hall of Famer Hack Wilson's earliest baseball card issues is this ultra-scarce 1928 Tharp's Ice Cream #25 subject, presented here in a fine SGC 4 VG-EX holder. Joined by a single other SGC example at this seldom surfacing mid-grade plateau, it has only been bested by a sole SGC 4.5 specimen! Only the 1925 Universal Toy & Novelty Giants, 1925-31 Exhibit Postcard-Back, and 1927 York Caramel issues precede this elusive keepsake, with SGC's prestigious census report listing a paltry six total Tharp's examples. The 1928 campaign would see Hack Wilson lead the Senior Circuit with 31 round-trippers, while knocking in 120 runs and posting a stellar .313 batting average. Well on his way to Cooperstown, Wilson' finest six seasons would be realized in the Windy City with his 191 RBIs in 1931 still standing tall as an MLB record. One of his rarest cards offered in near-impossible mid-grade condition, the classic swinging pose is a grand testament for this barrel chested slugger who hit a baseball as hard as anyone from this bygone era!
