(LOT 525)
1910-11 M116 Sporting Life Ty Cobb "Pastel" SGC 4 VG-EX

PASTEL COBB!!!... Similar to many pre-WWI issues, presented here is the most prominent player included in the renowned M116 Sporting Life set, the iconic Tyrus Raymond Cobb "pastel" version in a stellar SGC 4 VG-EX holder. The Georgia Peach may arguably be the finest all-around player that ever lived. His .366 lifetime batting average still stands at the top, and his unbridled legacy places him as one of our National Pastime's five greatest players to ever grace a baseball diamond. A total of 4,189 hits, 891 stolen bases, 2,246 runs scored and 12 AL batting titles support the preceding argument. In fact, the year this card was issued, Cobb would capture his fourth consecutive batting crown, well on the way to an unprecedented nine consecutive titles from 1907-1915!

Similar to the other M116 subjects, this masterpiece is highlighted by the classic Carl Horner portrait photo also viewed on Cobb's famous T206 and Williams Caramel issues. The card's central image aesthetics are pack-fresh to say the least, highlighted by a sparkling/well-centered pose emanating vibrant facial hues. Imposing to say the least, Tyrus never looked better than in this truly underrated offering that has tremendous upside. No glaring surface flaws are evident on either side, with the somewhat conservative grade primarily due to even corner wear. Many players have come and gone, but Cobb's legacy will outlast eternity, and this captivating M116 Georgia Peach cardboard treasure is certainly worthy of a final resting place in any esteemed vintage gathering!
