Roberto Clemente 3,000th Hit Ticket Stub - September 30, 1972 at Three Rivers Stadium - Pirates 5; Mets 0 - PSA Authentic

LAST HIT STUB!!!... On September 30, 1972, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets 5-0. It was relatively inconsequential as Pittsburgh had run away with the NL East Division so the Buccos were set to face the Cincinnati Reds in the NLCS. More importantly, however, Pirates right fielder Roberto Clemente notched his 3,000th hit, becoming the 11th player in Major League history to reach the mark. Sadly, that would also serve as the final hit of his career as Clemente was tragically killed in a plane crash on December 31, 1972 as he and a small team were attempting to provide humanitarian aid to Nicaragua, which had been rocked by a devastating 6.3-magnitude earthquake only eight days earlier.

Clemente's character as an ambassador to Puerto Rico and humanitarian for all led Major League Baseball to rename the Commissioner's Award the Roberto Clemente Award honoring the player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvements and the individual's contribution to his team". Presented here is a bright pink Three Rivers Stadium box seat ticket stub encased Authentic by PSA from Clemente's final hit of his career. (Clemente hit a double to left off Jon Matlack.) In excellent shape save for the customary tear along the perforation at the bottom, the stub shows some handling and aging wear, mostly on the reverse. This would make a great addition to any Clemente or significant or important ticket gathering.
