(LOT 313)
c.1960s Mickey Mantle Oversized PSA Type 1 Art Rickerby Photo - Measures Approx. 11" x 14" – PSA LOA

CLASSIC MANTLE!!!... Little did people realize that in 1951, the ultra-powerful rookie from Oklahoma named Mickey Charles Mantle would be embarking on one of the most iconic careers in our National Pastime's glorious history. Luckily for hobbyists, there are hundreds of Mantle cards to choose from, more than accommodating the collecting community for an opportunity to own a popular baseball card of this Yankee icon. Unfortunately for advanced photo enthusiasts, the prospect of capturing an oversized image of the Commerce Comet resides as a fractional opportunity versus the seemingly countless number of available baseball cards that flood the hobby. Offered here just happens to be one of the most imposing Mantle PSA Type 1 photos extant, a remarkable 11" x 14" c.1960s image with The Mick kneeling in the on-deck circle at Yankee Stadium as he awaits another opportunity to blast a horsehide sphere into the grandstands.

Donning his classic Yankee pinstripes, this incredible image literally brings Mantle to life, as he leans on his right knee and colossal sized lumber. The crystal clear clarity and impeccable contrast add an almost 3D effect, and close inspection of the extremely well centered illustration reveals there are no glaring surface blemishes whatsoever. The verso depicts a "Mantle – Rickerby" notation in the center as well as a "Photo – Rickerby – Great Neck, N.Y." ink script near the upper right corner. A breathtaking illustration to say the least, the 1960s would see Mantle achieve two world-class milestones; the first being Mickey eclipsing the Bambino's all-time World Series 15-homer record (Mantle would wind up with 18 WS round-trippers), and the second being Mantle belting his 500th career home run which at the time made him only the fourth player to achieve that mark!
