Sandy Koufax Defeats the Cubs 2-1 on August 29, 1961 at Wrigley Field - Original PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Chicago Sun Times Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

KOUFAX 2-1 WIN!!!... The date is August 29, 1961, and the LA Dodgers' immortal flame throwing left-hander Sandy Koufax would take the mound against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field before 14,578 fans. In typical fashion, roughly 2-1/2 hours later, Sandy would be walking off the mound after the final out to shake hands with catcher Johnny Roseboro, having bested the Cubs by a 2-1 score. Koufax would yield only two hits and strike out 12 overmatched hitters, turning Chicago's bats into sawdust as he claimed his 15th victory of the season via this complete game gem. On this particular day, Sandy's fastball was as scorching as the 86-degree heat, and this extremely rare PSA Type 1 photo was originally struck depicting one of Koufax's tantalizing pitches. Revealing a classic Koufax pitching pose, the Dodgers' ace is in the process of loading up on his left drive leg, about to unleash either a blazing fastball or filthy "12 to 6" curveball that typically dropped like a rock.

Near-perfect contrast and the absence of any glaring flaws within the imposing central image are the highlights of this timeless pose that was issued a little over a year later on November 6, 1962 by the prestigious Chicago Sun Times (date is stamped on the back). The only notable flaw is some paper rippling across the photo's central portion, with the verso including a significant caption revealing the August 29, 1961 game date, its Wrigley Field venue, and a sentence detailing Koufax's two-hitter/12 strikeout performance. As an aftermath, Sandy would end his breakout 1961 season with 18 wins and a league leading 269 strikeouts, a bona fide sign of the incredible achievements this fire-balling southpaw was embarking on. A sensational heirloom from Sandy Koufax's dominating 8/29/61 win over Chicago, it turns back the clock to an era when this LA Dodgers icon was about to turn the baseball world upside down via his supernatural pitching performances!
